Secret Admirer

Grabbing the brass doorknob, you pulled the oak door open. You were greeted with the musty smell of rain. Looking down, you felt the corners of your lips pull up into a small smile as your eyes met the sight of a single letter. Your name read across the front in neat, cursive letters. You bent down, picking up the white envelope in your hand, feeling the texture of the paper against your finger tips. You ripped the letter open, pulling out a single sheet of paper. On it was letters, and those letters formed beautiful words that made your heart flutter.

Dear _____,

Did you know that you are the most beautiful girl in the world. Your eyes make me melt every time you look my way and your smile practically brings me to tears. You are perfect. Sometimes I think of what my life would be like without you. As far as I can tell, it would be hell compared to what it's like right now. Seeing you gives me a feeling that I have yet to name. Someday I will deliver a letter to you in person. Right now I need to build up this courage, so give me time _____. I hope you are looking forward to this day as much as I am. Wait for me, _____.

Love,
Your Secret Admirer

Every time you read one of these letters you felt like you would burst from happiness. You never thought that anyone would ever like you enough to give you sweet, little letters in secret. It was almost like a fairy tale. These letters made you feel special and original. These words were meant for you and only you.

"Hey, _____!" Someone called. Your head snapped up, causing (h/c) locks to go flying. Your (e/c) eyes were attentive and when they finally caught sight of Arthur, they relaxed. A large smile found its way onto your face and you waved at him. "Hey Arthur." You called back. The blond approached you, his green eyes giving away his cheerful mood. "How are you this morning, love?" He asked, his British accent laced into the words that escaped his lips. "I'm good." You said, folding up the letter and placing it back into the envelope. "What is that?" Arthur asked, looking at the paper in your hand. "Just a letter." You answered. "Who's it from?" You hesitated a bit before answering with "My aunt." Arthur nodded, forcing his gaze away from the letter and to your own (e/c) eyes.

"We should go." He said, turning away from you to walk in the direction of the school. "Yea." You replied, quickly following him as you placed the letter in your bag. "How is your brother?" You asked, referring to Alfred. The over-enthusiastic blonde had broken his leg after learning that there was ice cream in the house. The real blame was put on the banana peel that was left on the floor. No one really knew where it came from, but somehow Alfred had managed to slip on it. "He's fine." Arthur answered. "That's good."

The rest of the walk was in a silence. It wasn't awkward. It was nice actually. The September air surrounded you with a moderately warm breeze. The leaves would be changing colors soon, but not for another month or so. The grass was still a vivid green, almost as bright as it was last month. The birds still remained in their nests as autumn approached. The neighborhood wasn't very busy at this hour. Most people were already at work, or staying in their beds to wake up at later hours.

It wasn't long before the school came into sight. The brick building looked clean and well kept. The bushes that lined the front wall were neatly trimmed and the grass appeared to be freshly cut. The windows were clean, reflecting the morning sunlight. Other students had already arrived at the school. They crowded into the building in small groups, chatting among themselves

Both you and Arthur entered the building behind a noisy group. The group dispersed, allowing you to get around them and head towards your locker. Arthur followed you, keeping close behind. His locker was only three away from your own. Once you got to the metal box, you turned the dial, matching the numbers with the combination until the ability to open the locker was given. You opened the door, revealing the inside which was filled with binders and textbooks. You grabbed the thing required for the first few periods, and put away the other objects that were not needed. Arthur did the same.

The warning bell was scheduled to ring in seven minutes. Arthur walked you to class and when the warning bell rang he headed off to his own homeroom. You would see him second period and again during lunch. Right now you had to go sit in your seat and wait for you teacher to take attendance.

3 ½ hours later

With Arthur

The blonde followed the majority of the crowd towards the cafeteria. A letter was clenched tight in his right hand as his steps brought him closer to where you were. He was determined, but frightened. His memory brought him back to this morning when he saw you smiling at the letter in your hands. He also remembered waking up extra early just to place that letter on your door step before you even woke up.

As Arthur entered the cafeteria his eyes scanned the room until he found the table were you and the rest of the group would sit at. That group consisted of You, Francis, Gilbert, Alfred, Kiku, Feliciano, Ludwig and Arthur himself. On rare occasions Antonio and Lovino would pull up a chair and sit with the others, but that was only when the Spaniard could convince the ill-mannered Italian to sit with everybody else.

Arthur spotted you, and as he began to walk over to the table, he felt his grip on the envelope get tighter. He couldn't do this. Not in front of all these people. He would deliver the letter to you after school. Maybe then you wouldn't be surrounded with people that would laugh and mock him if things went bad. After stuffing the letter into his bag, Arthur walked over to the table, smiling as he took the seat next to you. "'Ello, love." Arthur greeted you. You smiled back, your eyes bright and cheerful. "Hey." You replied, handing him a plastic bag. Arthur took it and noticed it was stuffed with cookies. He quirked an eyebrow at you. "My mom made a lot of cookies last night and she wanted me to give some away. I brought a bunch for everybody." You answered and Arthur only replied with a nod and a "Thank you."

He sat for a while, munching on the cookies you had passed to him. His green eyes were focused on the lunch table, his mind on other things. He didn't notice that (e/c) eyes were staring at him. Instead he thought of the possibilities. Like the possibility that he would give you the letter face to face and you would turn away in disgust. Maybe you would burst out crying instead because you felt bad for him since he liked someone who would never like him back. Perhaps a bright smile would overcome your features and he would be thrown to the ground in a hug. However, there was always the possibility that he could hide the note from you forever, and merely give you a letter saying his courage has run out. In all honesty, Arthur didn't know how you would react if he were to hand you a letter with your name written on it in neat cursive. The possibility of rejection had kept him from finding out the answer.

"Arthur? You okay?" The sound of his name broke him from his train of thought and his head whipped around to see you. You looked a bit concerned, with a mix of confusion in your (e/c) orbs. The rest of the table continued on with their own conversations, not paying attention to either of you. Arthur's green eyes relaxed as he processed the question in his head. "I'm fine, love. Just thinking." You nodded in reply and went back to eating your lunch.

Before long the bell rang and the other students rushed from the cafeteria to head to their 5th period and possibly make a quick stop at their lockers before doing so. Both you and Arthur headed to your lockers before pacing quickly to your next class. The Brit knew that this school was to big for it's own good and having a locker on the opposite side of the school as most of your classes was just pure torture. The door to 5th came in sight and Arthur made it in the room just seconds before the bell rang. He sighed in relief as he took his seat next to Berwald. The only thing on his mind was the crumpled letter that he had shoved into his bag.

Another 3 hours later

With You

The final bell rang, giving off the signal for the students to begin to pour out of the door way and head to their lockers or meet up with their friends in the commons. The first thing you did was head over to your locker to grab the books you needed for tonight's homework. Thankfully, you only had a vocabulary activity for English to complete. That would take you probably about 15 minutes.

After collecting your small load, you headed for commons to meet up with everyone else. However, as you turned the corner someone ran into you. You felt yourself about to fall over but you were caught by a pair of arms that wrapped themselves around you. Looking up, you noticed Arthur's red face staring down at you. You blushed a bit and worked to regain your balance so the blonde could release his grip on you. The close proximity made you a bit nervous and you were pretty sure Arthur was a bit flustered as well.

"I-I was looking for you." Arthur mumbled, his gaze avoiding eye contact. "Yea? Did you need something?" You asked, trying hard to keep from letting your voice shake. You didn't notice the white envelope that was clutched so tightly in his hand that it was crinkled under the pressure. He held out the letter towards you, still keeping his green eyes from looking directly into yours. You looked at the paper in his hand, your eyes widening a bit as you realized what was written on the front of it. You grabbed the letter and Arthur let it slip from his grasp. It was the same style of writing that had been on all of those letters. The neat cursive gave it away.

Very slowly, you turned the envelope over and opened up the flap to grab the letter from the inside. You unfolded the paper, looking at the small amount of writing that it held. With each word your eyes grew just a small fraction wider.

Dear _____,

I found the courage to show you who I am. Do you care that it's me? Were you expecting someone else? At least I kept my word. Now it's time for you to decide whether you want to be mine or not.

Love,
Your Secret Admirer, Arthur Kirkland

You folded the letter back up and placed it inside it's crinkled envelope. "Arthur…" His face was red and his green eyes focused on the floor. He wouldn't look at you. "Arthur." You said again. This time his eye came up to meet yours. The green orbs held a mix of emotions. You gave him a small smile. "So it was you?" He replied with a, "Yea." but other than that was silent. "You act like I'm going to deny you." You said, your smiling growing a bit. His eyes flashed with a different emotion. Surprise. "I really liked your letters Arthur. They… made me feel important." You told him, causing him to smile. "Well I'm glad." He said, walking over to give you a hug. "So does this mean that you want to be… mine?" He asked. You could imagine his face being as red as yours. "Yea. I guess it does." He pulled away from you to brush his lips against yours briefly.

"Hey Arthur?" You questioned. "Yes, love?" He replied, confusion filling his eyes. "Thanks for being my admirer." He smiled at your words. "No problem."
